I don’t have anything of substance today—I’ve been off reading Marisha Pessl’s Special Topics in Calamity Physics—but, while digging around for something to litblog about, I found this short, fun book quiz.
You’re Ulysses by James Joyce.
Most people are convinced that you don’t make any sense, but compared to what else you could say, what you’re saying now makes tons of sense. What people do understand about you is your vulgarity, which has convinced people that you are at once brilliant and repugnant. Meanwhile, you are content to wander around aimlessly, taking in the sights and sounds of the city. What you see is vast, almost limitless, and brings you additional fame. When no one is looking, you dream of being a Greek folk hero.
That’s strangely accurate, though I wouldn’t agree with the “brilliant” aspect.

I did that quiz once and got Brave New World, and I just did it again, with different answers, and got Ulysses. It all came down to how I answered that first question, about being long-winded or concise. I’m concise, but I like reading long-winded, so the question bugged me. Okay, way too much thinking about that quiz!

I did the quiz several times, just to see what would happen when I answered the questions differently, but the “Ulysses” result was from the first time I did the quiz, when I answered the questions honestly. I was a bit surprised at the result, mostly because I’ve never read “Ulysses.” I do tend to be very long-winded, especially in comments (!) but I’ve been working at trying to be more concise. But I’m the opposite of you; I like to read concise. I really struggle with Henry James, but I love to read Hemingway. Go figure.

I’ve never read ‘Ulysses’.
I did the quiz and I’m ‘The Two Towers’ by Tolkien. I haven’t read that either.

I got ‘Watership Down’ … something about a fixation on rabbits.
