Thoughts of no particular interest to anyone but myself:
- As it turns out, I have no motivation to blog after I’ve spent the previous evening pouring large amounts of rum into my body. Hence the short post.
- I’m such a nerd when it comes to Sherlock Holmes—he’s my favorite literary character—so I was thrilled when Matthew over at Condalmo clued me in on this: Stanford University is reprinting Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories as they originally appeared in The Strand. Readers can download free .pdfs of classics like The Hound of the Baskervilles, “The Adventure of the Speckled Band,” and “A Scandal in Bohemia.” A dozen more stories, including “The Musgrave Ritual,” “Charles Augustus Milverton,” and “His Last Bow,” will follow next year.
- And let’s not forget about Charles Dickens. Stanford has also reprinted Great Expectations, Hard Times, and A Tale of Two Cities as they originally appeared in serial form. (And while we’re on the subject of Dickens, take a look at this short, charming Flash animation about the author’s life.)
